This year’s topic:
Celebrating Alaskan Aviation.

The Write Women of Sitka, in conjunction with the Alaska Day Committee, are hosting the Third Annual Alaska Day Prose Writing Contest. Prizes of $100, $50, and $25 will be awarded in each of the following categories: Elementary School, Middle School, High School, and Adult. Winners will have the opportunity to read their work at one of the Alaska Day celebration venues. Excerpts from some winning works will be published in the Sitka Daily Sentinel and Alaska Women Speak Magazine.

Contest Rules
Topic: Celebrating Alaskan Aviation
You must be a resident of Sitka or attending school in Sitka to enter. Only one entry per person, please.

Entries must be prose (no poetry) with a 1200 word maximum. Entries must be typed on 8½ x 11 inch paper, one side only, double spaced, Arial or Times New Roman font, size 12 or 14 point, one inch margins. Elementary school submissions may be hand written in any style.

Staple the entry form to the front of your work. Your name should appear only on the entry form page, not on the entry itself.

The Write Women of Sitka will judge the submissions. Decisions of the judges are final.  Alaska Day Committee and the Write Women of Sitka will retain nonexclusive rights to publish winning entries. (This means both the contest sponsors and the winning authors have rights to publish.) No entries will be returned.

Submissions must be postmarked by September 30, 2011.
